Only the german version of the charter is legally binding!

§ 1 The "Hugo-Obermaier Society for Quaternary Research and Archaeology of the Stone Age" is a non-profit association of scientists, that deidcate themselves to the research of the Quaternary, the prehistoric human and the stone age, and of friends of this research.

The society is based in Regensburg, the birth-city of Hugo Obermaier.

§ 2 The function of the society is, to support and represent the interests and concerns of the Quaternary science, with a special focus on the research on the Palaeolithic man, his environment and his cultures. Priority has the work, that is standing in the tradition of the work of Hugo Obermaier.

The support is to be done by:
By the support and publication of the "QUARTÄR"-yearbook and the volumes of the "QUARTÄR-BIBLIOTHEK" (By Volume 55 the QUARTÄR-yearbook bears the subtitle "International Yearbook for Ice Age and Stone Age Research"). Maintaining relations to foreign researchers of the Quaternary and the stone age. Planing and arranging meetings and congresses. Supporting scientific projects; e.g. excavations

§ 3 The Hugo-Obermaier Society for Quaternary Research and Archaeology of the Stone Age is composed of orderly members. Orderly members can be single persons, as well as associations, societies and corporations. These are represented by a single person in meetings of members. More than one vote per person is not possible. Is a member representing a corporation and at the same time is a personal member of the society, he has only one vote.
Every member has to pay an annual fee.
(The amount of the membership-fee is determined by the meeting of members and is not part of the charter. At the moment the membership-fee is 25,- € for single persons and corporations; student members have to pay 10,- €). After paying the annual fee the orderly and the exceptional members receive an account of the annual meeting for free. The QUARTÄR-yearbook and the volumes of the QUARTÄR-BIBLIOTHEK can be obtained at a 30 %, respectively 25 % discount. Besides the orderly members the society has corresponding members and honorary members. Corresponding members are exceptional scientists presented to the meeting of members by the board of directors. Their number should not exceed 10 persons.
Honorary members are persons that have gained extraordinairy merits in Quaternary and stone age research or in the Hugo-Obermaier Society. Their number should not exceed 5 persons. Corresponding members and honorary members are exempted from annual membership fees.

§ 4 Business is carried out by a six person board of directors. The society is legally represented by the first and second chairman in connection with a further board member. The board of directors is composed of:

1. the 1. chairman = president
2. the 2. chairman = vice president
3. the secretary
4. the treasurer
5. and 6. two assessors.

In advisory capacity a board of up to seven members can advise the board of directors. Advisory members are presented by the board of directors to the meeting of members.
The board of directors and the advisory members are elected by the meeting of members for a duration of three years. Two reelections are possible. The board of directors remains in office until a new board is orderly elected. Is there a tie in the vote of the board of directors, the vote of the 1. chairman decides.
If a member of the board of directors leaves the board inbetween the three years he was elected for, a new board member is elected in the next meeting of members.

§ 5 An orderly meeting of members is to be held at least every two years, allthough a meeting of members should be held every year, if possible. The meeting place is decided by the board of directors.
The call to the meeting of members has to publicated in writing at least 15 days before the meeting. The orderly meeting of members receives the account of administration and the treasury-report from the 1. chairman or his replacement person. This one is to be reimbursed by a controller, who is assigned by the board of directors at the beginning of the meeting. The meeting of members grants releif to the treasurer upon application.
Votes and decissions are carried out by the persons entitled to vote in the meeting of members and are votet after presentation to the members by the majority of votes.
In exceptional cases the board of directors can summon an exceptional meeting of members or arrange a written poll amongst the members entitled to vote.
An exceptional meeting of members can be arranged by one third if the orderly members of the society by written application and has to take place not later than 2 months after the incoming of the application at the board of directors. The application has to clearly show the causes and goals of the application. Decisions made by the meeting of members are to be recorded in writing, read at the end of the meeting and initialed by the chairman and the secretary.

§ 6 Proposals for changes of the charter can be offered by he board of directors at the meeting of members or by at least 15 members in written form at least 24 days before the next meeting of members. At least two thirds of the members have to accept the changes of the charter to have the changes take place. Is less than onme tenth of the members entitled to vote present at the meeting, the meeting is not quorate to change the charter.

§ 7 The acception of new members results from a written application to one member of the board of directors. To take effect it has to be affirmed by the board of directors. The exit of the society has to be requested in written form until the 31. October of the current year for taking legal effect in the next year.
If a important factor exists, expecially if the further remaining of a member would damage the society, the board of directors is entitled to eclude the member of the society after a hearing of the member-to-be-escluded.

§ 8 A possible breakup of the society needs a meeting of at least two thirds of the societies members entitled to vote. three quarters of these members have to agree to break up the society. In this case the assets of the society go to the city of Regensburg to be used for the support of Quaternary science and the QUARTÄR-yearbook.

§ 9 This charter was established in 1951 and changed by the decision of the meeting of members in the years 1966, 1972, 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2013.
